Global Awarding

The Golden Globes have just been handed out in Hollywood and, in a not-too surprising result, Brokeback Mountain has all but swept the main drama categories, taking Director, Screenplay, Film and Original Song. The real upset was in the acting, with Philip Seymour Hoffman snatching Best Actor (Drama) for Capote. Elsewhere, Walk The Line can walk tall with three wins – Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon in the acting categories and the film in Best Musical Or Comedy.

Felicity Huffman won Best Actress (Drama) for transsexual drama Transamerica and keeping the British end up was Rachel Weisz, scooping Best Supporting Actress (Drama) for The Constant Gardener. George Clooney got his only award of the night for Best Supporting Actor (Drama) for his role in oil drama Syriana. Now it’s time to see how these awards affect the Oscars. Does this mean Brokeback is the one to beat? Or will we see some upsets? Can Clooney scoop his first Oscar?
