Mark Millar. Grant Morrison. Frank Quitely. All influential figures in the comic book world. All Scottish. Which explains why this year’s Glasgow Film Festival has dedicated a portion of its programme to celebrating comics.
Millar himself is a GFF Ambassador, and has been installed to oversee this new portion of the festival – ComicCamp 11 – which will include screenings of new and old films, guest talent and a look at the Scottish comic scene.
Of the films showing at the fest, the new 3D version of Battle Royale is among them, as well as Danger Diabolik , Canadian animation Heavy Metal , Crumb and Richard Donner’s cut of Superman II.
Topping it off is the new film Griff The Invisible , an Australian comedy about a put-upon office worker who becomes a masked crime fighter by night.
Other ComicCamp 11 treats include a workshop hosted by Millar that will look at the art of writing graphic novels, while Dave Gibbons and Quitely will discuss illustrating.
