"Just like Gizmondo the first time around, this will make complete sense on paper," says our source. Apparently, the returning Gizmondo will be manufactured by a UK electronics company called Plextrex, who have enlisted the help of ex-Gizmondo Europe director Carl Freer. Immediately, then, there are ties to Gizmondo's original madness. Our Spider senses are tingling, and its not a pleasant feeling.
But how does a company lose hundreds of thousands of pounds, become bankrupt, and then reappear? Well, in essence, Gizmondo the company is still dead, it's just the hardware that's coming back. Interestingly, though, our source informs us that a Swedish company has been set up (they have a Gizmondo-branded extranet website atGizmondo.se) to purchase the Gizmondo intellectual property from the liquidators. But, because it's based in Sweden and is - effectively - a different company, it won't be liable for Gizmondo's outstanding legal issues and debts.
Our source continues: "Will anyone make a distinction between ‘new’ Gizmondo and the previous, well documented scam? Not a chance. Resurrecting the IP has given the new company instant notoriety, but this shouldn’t be mistaken for speculative interest by anyone."
