Gilbert Gottfried claims he's voicing the lead in Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar responds cheekily
An unlikely choice, but Rockstar does have a knack for surprising us
According to The Noble Eskimo, a now-removed tweet from actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried claimed that he's been picked up by Rockstar as the lead voice in GTA 5.
According to the site, the piezoelectric-toned actor tweeted, "just found out I'm voicing the lead in grand theft auto 5! also I hate japan lol." When contacted for a statement, Rockstar North apparently responded with a poster for the 1990 film 'Problem Child,' which Gottfried appeared in.
Gottfried's comment about Japan was in reference to an earlier tweet about the recent earthquake, which many deemed insensitive. He later tweeted that he "sincerely apologized" if his attempt at humor offended anyone.
Gottfried seems pretty unlikely for the lead role in GTA V (which, by the way, hasn't been officially announced, but does it really need to be?), but we could see him taking a side role for comedic effect. A 'source,' however, has apparently told The Noble Eskimo that Rockstar will be taking a more serious tone in GTAV, and was impressed by Gottfried's portrayal of Iago in Disney's Aladdin. Ha ha?
Perhaps Rockstar's reference to Problem Child is an indication that it is working with Gottfried, and that his recent controversial statements have made the film's title a fitting moniker for the actor. Perhaps watching the film will reveal more clues? I hope not, because I sure as hell don't want that beat.
It's just as likely, however, that the tweet was a joke, and that Rockstar demanded its removal before rumors began circulating. Too late. Thanks for the silly article, Gottfried, Rockstar, and The Noble Eskimo!
