Ghostrunner 2 gives cyberpunk speedrunning a wall-crawling motorcycle
The sequel to the modern cult classic makes its first proper appearance
We've gotten our first proper look at Ghostrunner 2 as part of today's PlayStation Showcase, and it's upping the intensity of the previous game with what looks to be a wall-crawling motorcycle.
After a cinematic introduction, we see a bunch of what appears to be in-game footage, much of it from the back of a motorcycle, which appears just as comfortable on vertical surfaces. There's plenty of on foot action, too. This is our first proper look at the game after it was announced way back in 2021.
The trailer concludes with the line that "blood will run" in 2023, but sadly we don't have any more specific release information than that. The game is set to hit PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC whenever it does launch.
A PlayStation Blog post promises "some of the toughest opponents you've ever encountered in a video game," but this sequel is going deeper on story, too, with a dialogue system that'll let you interact with NPCs, and a central HQ area where you can rest between missions.
Ghostrunner 2 is much larger in scope than the original, featuring more locations beyond just Dharma Tower. New abilities include things like Shadow, which will let you trick enemies with a decoy and turn on your own cloak. The devs also promise more varied level design, new and reconfigured enemies, and more ways to play beyond just the campaign.
Then, of course, there's the motorcycle. "Some levels that feature the motorbike are far more complex and open world than typical Ghostrunner levels. This means that you’ll have to use your wits and your skills to navigate through these levels, and you’ll have to always be on your toes."
