New Ghostbusters footage introduces a female Slimer... Slimerella? Bride of Slimer?
Slimer's return to the world of Ghostbusters remained up in the air for a while, before we finally caught sight of the translucent spectre in a trailer. He's back... and he's brought a friend. A lady friend. Take a look at the duo in the new TV spot (it's right at the end):
First things first: Slimer can drive. This raises some interesting questions, especially as he's so fond of gliding through solid matter. How he can grip a steering wheel is perhaps something we'll have to suspend our disbelief about.
As for his female companion, it's pleasant to see the poor guy at least have someone who shares his love of food, but it's unnerving to witness a puke green ghost with hair and lipstick. So who is she exactly? His wife? Sister? A female clone? The clip's title is 'The Slimers' which implies they're married. It sets things up nicely for a Slimer spin-off movie about how they met (dumpster diving) and where Slimer popped the question (see previous parentheses).
Lady Slimer is bound to ruffle feathers in any case. I must admit, as someone who's looking forward to the film, it did make me wonder. But then I shook it off and remembered; it's just a TV spot, not the movie.
Directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth, Ghostbusters opens in UK and US cinemas on July 15, 2016.
