Ghostbusters footage explores the new ECTO-1 and teases theme song
In just over a month the rebooted Ghostbusters team will strut their stuff on cinema screens worldwide, with the hopes of reigniting the spooky brand for a whole new generation of moviegoers. While we're getting a fresh line-up of supernatural hunters, it just wouldn't be a 'busters movie without a souped-up car for the gang to hurtle around the streets of New York City. The iconic ECTO-1 is getting in on the reboot action too, taking center stage in this latest promo footage:
If you've not caught any of the previous trailers, the cat's outta the bag; Ray Stantz's ambulance rustbucket has been switched out for Patty Tolan's uncle's Cadillac hearse. I, for one, dig it. The idea of a new Ghostbuster acquiring an unorthodox vehicle is a great way to maintain the spirit of the original, while still making it an organic part of the reboot. There's a few neat touches to the car too, in particular, the lil' ghostie riding on the front.
One nifty addition to the promo comes toward the end, where if you listen closely you can hear a few snippets of the retooled Ghostbusters theme sung by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliot. Like the small chunks revealed in earlier teasers, it's safe to say that the new song certainly marks a change in pace when compared to Ray Parker's 1984 version. Quite fitting for a reboot, then.
Directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Neil Casey, Andy Garcia and Chris Hemsworth, Ghostbusters opens in UK and US cinemas on July 15, 2016.
