Gerry Anderson memorabilia goes on sale

This has to be one of the best clear-out sales ever! Gerry Anderson’s moving out of his Pinewood office, and putting loads of the contents up for auction. Of course, this being the creator of Thunderbirds, Stingray, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet and many more, we’re not just talking staplers, calculators and bookshelves – there’ll be scripts for the CGI Captain Scarlet, Anderson’s very own director’s chair, some original Derek Meddings sketches and blueprints for Dinky models of classic Anderson craft. FAB!

All these and more go under the hammer at Battersea Arts Centre this Saturday (7 February) from 1.30pm until 5.30pm (viewing starts at 10.30am). One mystery lot will be introduced by the man himself – all we know is that it has a guide price between £1000 and £3000. Intriguing.

So what’s behind the office move and sale? "I have been in and out of Pinewood Studios for much of my long career producing various movies and television series,” explains Anderson. “My plans for the future are to make top quality movies in CGI. This necessitates employing up to 200 technicians for a period of two years for each movie. Unfortunately Pinewood Studios can no longer accommodate me due to lack of suitable space and so I am having to relocate elsewhere. I AM NOT RETIRING! However since I will be operating temporarily from my Home Office I simply won't have room for my huge collection of memorabilia. I have therefore decided to auction these unique items."

You can find out more about the event via Comet Miniatures (the organisers) or through Fanderson , Gerry Anderson’s Official Appreciation Society.
