The RTX 4070 finally hit the shelves on April 13, and we're rounding up the best places if you're wondering where to buy the latest Lovelace GPU. The last few months were filled with speculation, leaks, and rumours, but we can now confirm that the RTX 4070 has an MSRP of $599 / £589. Now we know more about the latest GPU from Team Green, and the launch day rush has come and gone, we can tell you the best places to get your hands on one.

The arrival of the RTX 4070 marks the beginning of the mid-range releases from Nvidia's 40 series GPUs, as we expect to see a 4060 Ti and 4060 as well soon. As an elevator pitch, the 4070 offers 3080 performance at $100 less, making it a serious contender for the best graphics card for gaming at 1440p. This type of performance-for-price would certainly be consistent with the 4090, 4080, and 4070 Ti releases, which all offer a step above their last-gen counterparts at a more affordable entry point.

The 4070 will make use of DLSS 3 and Ada Lovelace architecture. These two features being used in combination will allow for some excellent performance, even if it only features 12GB of memory. That's exactly what we found with the 4070 Ti when we reviewed it.

Without further ado, let's point you in the right direction if you're wondering where to buy the RTX 4070. We've also supplied details on specs, features, and everything else we know down below that.

Where to buy the RTX 4070 in the US

Now that the craziness of launch day has come and gone, we can tell you where to buy the RTX 4070 if you're still looking. Since this is the most affordable 40 Series GPU yet, we'd be willing to bet that it'll be a competitive time in the digital shopping aisles. On the whole, graphics card sales have been down in the last financial year, but with the more affordable end of the 40 series range starting to come in, we'd still expect the stock of 4070s to fly off the shelves.

At time of writing, the Nvidia Founders Edition is already out of stock in the UK (from Nvidia itself), so we'd expect you'll need to look for other vendors. Remember that you can always set up alerts through Nvidia's product finder if you want to get alerted of when stock becomes available in your area.

Newegg

Newegg
Newegg's stock of GPUs is second-to-none. You'll find models from PNY, ASUS, MSI, Zotac, Gigabyte, and more. Newegg also hosts third-party sellers, which usually creates fertile ground for good stock levels. With Newegg being a trusted retailer when it comes PC and components, it has to be one of the best places to buy the RTX 4070. We're seeing plenty of models listed at $599 too!

Best Buy
If you want to get as close to Nvidia's MSRP as possible, Best Buy is always the best bet. At time of writing the FE edition and Asus models are sold out, but MSI and Gigabyte are still sat at $599. Other models are available too but are more expensive.

There's always the option to go straight to the source. This will certainly be one of the best hubs where you can see stock in your area. Nvidia's website also has solid alerts to tell you when and where the board of your choice will be available in your area.

Overclockers UK

Overclockers UK
At present, we're seeing a myriad of 4070 models listed at Overclockers, for a wide range of prices. There's Asus, Gainward, Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte, and so much more. For now, the cheapest we're seeing are the Inno3D and Palit models which are both at £578.99. We'd be willing to bet this is one of the best places if you're wondering where to buy RTX 4070 GPUs as close to MSRP as possible.

eBuyer

eBuyer
We're seeing MSI, Asus, and Zotac all listed at £589.99 over at eBuyer right now. There are other models prices £100 above that, but a good range of twin and trio fan models. You'll get free next-day delivery, too.

Best deal - MSI GeForce RTX 4070 | £589.98

Amazon

Amazon
At the moment, we aren't seeing many RTX 4070 models listed on the UK version of Amazon. We'd absolutely expect this to change over time, however. Certainly in the long term, if you aren't married to buying on launch day, Amazon will be a good place to look for long-term stock. Amazon's prices for GPUs tends to be well above what we see from other retailers, but right now we're seeing the MSI Ventus variant listed at £589.

Again, Nvidia itself will be a strong way to see what stock is available, and from what retailer. Don't forget about setting up alerts, too, which can tell you when and where the board of your choice will be available in your area.

RTX 4070 Price

The MSRP of the RTX 4070 will be $599 in the US, and £589 in the UK. This is $200 less than the MSRP of the 4070 Ti which sits at $799, and $100 less than the RTX 3080, which offers comparable performance.

A $200 gap between the 70 and 70 Ti is fairly substantial. The 30 series versions of these cards, for example, sat at $499 and $599 respectively. For upgraded features and specs, the 4070 sitting at the same price as the 3070 Ti is fairly reasonable at first glance.

Of course, there's a little more to this pricing than meets the eye. This is, unfortunately, just a suggested price from the manufacturer, and with the markup GPUs have seen in recent years, it's likely that you'll be able to get your hands on the RTX 4070 anywhere between $600 and $700. This is also thanks to third parties like PNY, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac offering versions of these cards too since there's then another portion of funds that need to be drawn out.

In our 4070 Ti review, we mentioned that it was the "unlaunched" 4080 12GB model and that despite being rebranded as the 4070 Ti, its specs and build were completely the same, but priced $100 lower. This was fairly revealing, as it showed that Nvidia was capable of charging $100 less for the same product, and presumably still making a profit from it. This led to a lot of backlash and speculation that Nvidia has been over-charging for its GPUs. Considering the poor reception of the RTX 4070 Ti from critics and consumers alike, it may be that Nvidia has realized it needs to set prices a bit lower.

Although the price of graphics cards remains high, it's been reported on multiple occasions over the last few months that discrete GPU sales have hit historically low slumps, especially in 2022. Demand has significantly dropped since the chip shortage years of the pandemic, and the reason for the $200 disparity in the 4070 cards could be due to that.

RTX 4070 Specs

First leaked by a VideoCardz, the 4070 specs are "a giant leap" above the RTX 3070 and 3070 Ti. These are, of course, a step down from the 4070 Ti, but will be well above the 3080.

According to reviews, the 4070 is capable of great things at 1440p, and is capable of some light 4K gaming too, particularly with the help of DLSS. Do note, that the 4070 is a mid-range option and won't compete with the likes of the RTX 4090, for example. Regardless, we're sure the 4070 will still be seen in plenty of the best gaming PCs in the years to come.

As you'll see from that table, the specs of the 4070 and 4070 Ti aren't far off, besides a couple of aspects. In particular, the 40 teraflops the Ti has dwarfs the 4070's 29. However, the same amount of memory and memory speeds definitely carries over some genes from the Ti. Both in the number of cores and clock speeds may point to lesser performances, but in 1440p, with things like DLSS, the 4070 should still be more than capable.

In our 4070 Ti review, we found that the 12GB of GDDR6X memory was swallowed up too easily at 4K to generate the best kind of performances we've seen from AMD's Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX, which produced excellent frame rates in 4K. We'd expect the 4070 to be relegated to Quad HD, but it's likely to offer great framerates in that resolution for the money. Especially compared to the last-gen 70 models, this will be a big step up.
