Gears of War: Exile scrapped by Epic Games

There will be no Gears of War shooter for Kinect, says Epic Games. This weekend, studio director Cliff Bleszinski told GameSpot that the Gears of War spin-off has officially been pulled from development, explaining, "Let's just bury the hatchet now. Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been canceled."

A trademark for Gears of War: Exile was spotted in January 2011 (read: Gears of War: Exile trademarked by Epic Games. Leatherface hopes it's a Kinect game). At the time, it was rumored to be a a linear shooter that borrowed assets and events from Gears of War 2, as described in last February's update, Kinect Gears of War an on-rails shooter which reuses bits of GoW 2? Prepare to waggle your Lancers.

It's anyone's guess as to why Epic shut down the Kinect project. Odds are the Gears of War community wasn't exactly rallying for an on-rails version of the popular series, and Epic has bigger fish and/or Locust to fry. Let us know if you were looking forward to Gears of War: Exile, and if you're at all affected by its cancellation.
