So let's count down to the big showcase by running through some of the things we expect to see, and some that we really hope make an appearance.
Let's start with what we do know is going to make an appearance. Monster Hunter Wilds got its full reveal at the latest PlayStation State of Play, but the second trailer is going to drop at Summer Game Fest live.
The trailer is said to contain a "new monster reveal", with Capcom's Ryozo Tsujimoto taking to the stage to talk us through the new footage and reveal fresh details about the game.
It's set to launch in 2025, so don't expect a release date but after that State of Play trailer we're definitely keen to see more.
Here are series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, game director Yuya Tokuda & executive director/art director Kaname Fujioka to tell us a little bit more.
We hope you liked our #MHWilds trailer during State of Play! We'll be back at Summer Game Fest on June 7. Hear more in this community message from series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, game director Yuya Tokuda & executive director/art director Kaname Fujioka. pic.twitter.com/SB3EObuT6hMay 31, 2024
Another confirmed showing for Summer Game Fest is Dune Awakening. Currently without a release date, Dune Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set on Arrakis with all of its deserts and sandworms.
At Summer Game Fest, we're going to get a "very special story cinematic reveal" from developer Funcom for Dune Awakening, so it'll be interesting to see what that looks like in the wake of Dune Part 2 hitting cinemas earlier this year.
Our very own Dustin Bailey previewed the game earlier this year. After spending some time with the game, he said Dune Awakening aims to be a true survival MMO - first by making you survive Arrakis, then by making you survive politics.
If you're excited for this one, definitely give that a read.
We also know that Summer Game Fest will play host to the world premiere of Slitterhead gameplay. That's the new horror game from Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama and Bokeh Game Studio.
Unfortunately, the trailer leaked earlier today on Bokeh Games' own YouTube channel, confirming the November release date and showcasing some seriously horrific monsters.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is also getting a fresh trailer at Summer Game Fest. The sequel was only actually announced in April, so we've not seen that much of it yet.
What we do know though, is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is twice as big as the first game, has revamped combat "to make it more accessible," but stays "true to the core RPG experience".
in fact, the developer is confident enough in the game to say that it's everything the first RPG "was supposed to be in the beginning".
Atlus's upcoming JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio will also be making an appearance during Summer Game Fest. The game, which is a medieval fantasy adventure from the Persona developers, takes place in a world where people have to fight their own anxiety.
While it's unclear what exactly might be shown during SGF Live, if anything significant, Atlus is hosting an extended showcase later tonight about Metaphor: ReFantazio at 6pm PDT / 9pm EDT / 2am BST.
Given everything we already know about Metaphor: ReFantazio, including the October 11, 2024 release date, it's hard to say what all we might learn today from any sort of appearance during the event or the showcase after.
One thing's for sure: Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino and Shigenori Soejima, known for many Atlus character designs and artwork, will be "taking the stage" during Summer Game Fest.
Only a few hours to go until Metaphor: ReFantazio Director Katsura Hashino and Shigenori Soejima take the stage at #SummerGameFest! 🎥Watch the show beginning at 2pm PT/5pm ET and don’t miss the special appearance ➡️ https://t.co/J3DfDIj0Pq pic.twitter.com/YHwDiqaL5sJune 7, 2024
Speaking of Japanese games, it's also known that Bandai Namco is bringing the long-awaited revival of the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, to Summer Game Fest. If you're not familiar with the fighting game, you might at least recall hearing about it having 164 different roster slot with at least 11 of those being different Gokus.
There's no release date for the new Dragon Ball title as of yet, so it seems fair to assume that we might get one today. Up until now, the various promotional beats have been tied to revealing new fighters, so that's somewhat of a gimme as well.
⚡️Today! ⚡️ https://t.co/Du0CgslO9p pic.twitter.com/uJfml2YWCJJune 7, 2024
WOW! @summergamefest starts in ONE HOUR! 🤯Stay tuned after for DAY OF THE DEVS: SUMMER GAME FEST EDITION 2024! We've got another incredible show we can't WAIT for you to see. See you there: https://t.co/IbwZDRstRV pic.twitter.com/X9xmdWTTyAJune 7, 2024
If you're more keen on indies and the like, there's good news: SGF Live basically backs right into Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition 2024. Day of the Devs will be live as part of the same stream after SGF Live and feature a whole bevy of different indie games that will likely resonate with folks that enjoy our regular news and feature coverage.
A small sample of what's expected to appear as part of Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition 2024: Afterlove EP, Koira, While Waiting, Tom the postgirl, Psychroma, Building Relationships, UFO 40, Karma: The Dark World, Zoochosis, Hello Again, Phoenix Springs, Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure, and Screenbound. You don't have to just take my word for it, either. There's a whole Steam page showcasing all of these if you'd like to know more.
When it comes to possible unexpected showings at SGF Live, frankly your guess is as good as mine at this point.
Trying to figure out what might possible appear at SGF Live vs. Xbox's own showcase on Sunday, June 9, for example, feels a bit like trying to get blood from a stone. Could Xbox show Avowed? Sure. But why would it? And we already know BioWare and EA have a big Dragon Age showcase set for next week, so why would The Veilguard make an appearance here? Marketing plans are opaque and mysterious, though, so who even knows.
On the other hand, we don't have long to wait!
But, we're now just give minutes away from Summer Game Fest live!
What do we think is going to be up first?
Something Lego related is our first announcement of the evening.

And that's a wrap folks.
We've pinned everything that was announced at Summer Game Fest 2024, but we'll be back here later with more news and opinions from Summer Game Fest.
We're back - first up, a hot take on the best weapon to show up in SGF - the combination trident/blunderbuss that was the star of the show in the Enotria: The Last Song trailer. If you're looking for a soulslike to play later this year once the Shadow has settled over the Erdtree, you could certainly do worse.
In case you stuck around after the close of SGF, you might have seen an extra handful of games from Day of the Devs and Devolver Digital. One of those, which was almost guaranteed to catch our eye, was Tenjutsu, a martial roguelike from one of the developers behind the acclaimed Dead Cells.
One of the biggest games going into this show was Monster Hunter Wilds, which seems as though it could be even bigger than first thought. That's thanks to a double reveal during SGF - confirmation of series-first cross-play, and the debut of a couple of very important monsters.
Another big game coming in was Black Myth: Wukong - currently the most-wishlisted game on Steam. Sadly, it was bad news for some, as it was announced that the game's Xbox release would slip behind the PS5 and PC launch. Still, the game continues to look great.
Meanwhile, a whole bunch of smaller games were announced all at once, sort of, thanks to Among Us developer Innersloth, which has created its own indie game fund called Outersloth. It's already backed a bunch of games, including a slick spaceship roguelike.
That's all for today! Check back for more ongoing Summer Game Fest coverage tomorrow. We'll have hands-on impressions, interviews, and more coming in straight from the show floor.
If you noticed that Xbox was conspicuously absent from Black Myth: Wukong's pre-order splash page last night, then well caught. Developer Game Science confirms that the game will now arrive on Xbox sometime after PS5 and PC users get it on August 20.
A press release from the dev says of the deluxe and collector's editions, "Note that a release date for the physical editions is pending," before adding that "release timing for the Xbox Series X|S version will be disclosed at a later time."
If you're looking for more goodness from Atlus before Metaphor: ReFantazio releases on October 11, then you're in luck! A new trailer for Persona 3 Reload reveals that its biggest expansion yet, a game-sized DLC covering the JRPG's epilogue, is releasing on September 10. That ought to keep you busy for one month.
One of the more out-there moments of this year's event so far is the circulation of a billboard mourning the loss of the studios that have been closed over the past year, hovering near the SGF campus in Los Angeles. Although it doesn't really pull any punches, the five-figure display was nearly even more aggressive in its criticism - until its organizers realised it should be about the people who lost their jobs, not the execs who cut them.
While it's not directly related to SGF, Capcom's come out with a nugget of wisdom for those of you waiting for one of the most high-profile games of the show - Monster Hunter Wilds - but who aren't too keen on burning a Rathalos-sized hole in your wallet. During its recent financial results, the company suggested that fans who weren't keen to drop $70 on a new game need only wait five years for the price to drop - potentially as low as just five bucks.
We've touched on Black Myth: Wukong a couple of times already, but alongside all those people who've put in on their wishlists already, one very high-profile fan has announced their anticipation for the game. Hideo Kojima waded in to admit that Black Myth: Wukong has been on his mind for three years, and that he can't wait for its full release.
If you don't share Kojima's fondness for Chinese soulslikes, however, how's this for a change of pace: Grave Seasons combines Stardew Valley wholesomeness with a spooky, supernatural serial killer vibe, just to really ensure you don't know who to trust, even in the coziest of games.
Two more Summer Game Fest showcases down! Xbox Games Showcase was a stellar line-up particularly for 2025, and then we got a deep dive look into Black Ops 6 at its dedicated Direct.
Everything announced at the Xbox Games Showcase
From updates on STALKER 2, State of Decay, Fable, and South of Midnight to the reveal of Doom: The Dark Ages and Gears of War: E-Day, there was a lot to take in.
