Space Marine 2 roadmap and what to expect in future updates
Season 2 of the Space Marine 2 roadmap Is coming up soon, bringing a new mission and Dark Angels gear
The post-launch Space Marine 2 roadmap shows that new mission, enemies, and PVP maps will be arriving across several seasons over the next year. That means both Operations and Eternal War will be getting some support and additional content. Soon, players will get to try out the first new Operation with Season 2 of Space Marine 2, which sees the Astartes return to Kadaku to take on a formidable Tyrnanid Bio-Titan and perhaps don some Dark Angels armor in the process. Here’s what we know about the whole 2024-2025 roadmap for Space Marine 2, including everything coming in Season 2.
Space Marine 2 content roadmap and seasons for Year 1
Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have detailed the first year of post-launch updates and new content for Space Marine 2 in this new overview video and in a previous news post. New content is going to be released via what seems to be a fairly loose seasonal model, but most importantly, you won’t have to pay for any of the gameplay features, such as new missions, modes, and weapons – these are free to all players. The only premium items are the cosmetic packs that make up the Season Pass, which are purely for Space Marine 2 customization, and there are no battle passes or similar premium reward packs.
Although, it sounds like the new features mentioned in the roadmap will be released throughout the relevant season rather than all at once. Furthermore, there are a lot of vague and unexplained points on the roadmap, namely when each season begins and ends, but I’ve tried to explain and analyse where possible so you can understand what to expect, though bear in mind that this is all subject to change.
Saber will also be releasing patches and fixes alongside these updates to add quality-of-life changes and other improvements, and they’ve already explained what some of their priorities are now that the game is out in this Q&A article: things like improving AI bots, tweaking campaign and Operations difficulties, fixing matchmaking, and rebalancing PVP. However, the developer is not budging on issues such as adding FOV sliders, shoulder-swapping, and the lack of invincibility during Gun Strikes.
Space Marine 2 Season 1
Season 1 – a short introductory season focused mainly on fixes after the launch of the game – saw the addition of ultrawide support, private PVE lobbies, and a sparring arena for the Batte Barge. Additionally, there was a big patch which focused on adjusting Veteran campaign difficulty, PVP spawns, and enemy rebalancing, particularly for the Thousand Sons. It also saw the launch of many Ultramarines-themed cosmetics via the Ultramarines Cosmetic Pack and Ultramarines Champion Pack.
Space Marine 2 Season 2
Season 2 is on the horizon and marks the start of free, new content arriving in Space Marine 2. Starting in October and finishing at the end of 2024, all players can expect to see the following at no additional cost:
- A new PVE mission set on Kadaku – After the events of the campaign, Kadaku has unfortunately become almost entirely overrun by the Tyranids, with the Cadians making one last stand against the xenos swarms. This seems to be only mission arriving in Season 2, despite the roadmap saying “missions”.
- The Hierophant Bio-Titan needs to be taken down – this mission on Kadaku also features the colossal Hierophant Tyranid beasty, and it looks like bringing it down using some lascannon turrets will be the focus for the mission.
- Lethal difficulty for Operations – the new hardest Space Marine 2 difficulty level above Ruthless. The exact nature of this threat level hasn’t been discussed yet but expect there to be generous Space Marine 2 Requisition rewards for your efforts.
- New Neo-Volkite Pistol – A new weapon for Astartes to wield across game modes, though it’s not clear which Space Marine 2 classes will be able to use it aside from Tactical. Based on its use in the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game, it’s likely going to be a short-range but very powerful pistol, like a Melta Rifle/Plasma Pistol hybrid.
Those that have the Season Pass, either because they bought the Gold or Ultimate Editions of Space Marine 2 or they bought the pass separately, will also get the Dark Angels Champion Pack, Cosmetic Pack, and Weapon Skin Pack. Together, these include color schemes, heraldry, one weapon skin, and a unique Champion skin for the Bulwark class representing the Lion’s finest and their successors.
Space Marine 2 Season 3
Season 3 kicks off at the start of 2025 but has no clear end time. During this season, look out for these free additions to the game:
- A new PVE mission – based on a brief clip shown towards the end of the Post Launch Overview video, it looks like there’s an Operation set on Demerium coming up, so this could be Season 3’s mission.
- A new PVP game mode
- New PVP arenas – “arenas” suggests multiple maps.
- PVE Prestige Ranks – Assuming this system is the same as Saber Interactive’s World War Z game, Prestige Ranks will let you reset any of your level 30 Operations classes back to level 1, unlocking a permanent passive boost in the process and letting you level up all over again.
- Battle Barge expansion – Your guess is as good as mine for what this could possibly be. An arcade?
Season Pass owners will get a Champion Pack, Cosmetic Pack, and Weapon Skin pack for another Adeptus Astartes Chapter. Additionally, one other Chapter will get a Champion Pack only. Neither of these Chapters have been revealed but it seems like the Raven Guard might be next thanks to a Raven Guard emblem which can be seen briefly on the Heraldry screen in the Post Launch Overview video, though this could just be a placeholder icon.
Space Marine 2 Season 4
A start or end date has not been announced for Season 4, but all players will get these new features for free:
- Horde Mode – Nothing specific has been said about the exact format of this mode but it’ll definitely see your squad surviving increasingly brutal waves of enemies.
- New enemy
- New weapon
As with Season 3, Season Pass owners will receive a full Champion Pack, Cosmetic Pack, and Weapon Skin pack set for one Space Marine Chapter and a Champion Pack for another in Season 4. Neither of these Chapters have been revealed but the most well-known ones, such as the Blood Angels or Space Wolves, would be likely candidates.
