Marvel Rivals ranks and competitive mode explained
Here's how the competitive ranking system match rules work in Marvel Rivals
Ascending the Marvel Rivals ranks in competitive mode by testing your skills in hard-fought matches may lead to you getting exclusive rewards. The system is very similar to Overwatch's ranked competitive mode, so you might already be quite familiar, where winning as a team takes priority over individual success to maximize points. The more points you get, the quicker you'll rank up, while losses reduce your points and can even lead to demotions to lower ranks. Those are the basics but, I've laid out everything you need to know about the ranked system in Marvel Rivals below, including all the ranks, rules, and rewards.
All Marvel Rivals competitive ranks
At level 10, you will unlock Marvel Rivals' Competitive ranked mode, which features intense, multiple-round matches where victorious players can gain points to climb the ranks to prove their skill. There are eight different ranks, but all aside from the top two are divided into three tiers, so there are effectively 20 skill levels.
Every 100 points you earn bags you a rank promotion, with wins earning you rank points but losses costing you points, which could lead to a rank demotion if you're on a losing streak. However, dropping down a rank is prevented if you have Chrono Shields, but you get a limited number of these to protect yourself from demotions. At the higher ranks, there are a few other special rules to be aware, including rank decay and hero bans, which I've explained below.
Here are all the Marvel Rivals ranks in Competitive mode:
- Bronze III, II, I
- Silver III, II, I
- Gold III, II, I
- Platinum III, II, I
- Diamond III, II, I: If all players in a match are Diamond III or higher, each team gets to ban one Marvel Rivals character from hero selection before the match starts.
- Grandmaster III, II, I
- Eternity: Not competing for a while at this rank causes you to gradually lose rank points and risk demotion
- One Above All: Not competing for a while at this rank causes you to gradually lose rank points and risk demotion
If you're doing any Marvel Rival Team Ups with friends, be aware that players in adjacent ranks only can team up or match together (Bronze and Silver are considered a single rank for this purpose). That means Bronze-ranked players can team up and match with other Bronze players, as well as Silver and Gold players. However, Platinum players can only join Gold, Platinum, and Diamond players, and One Above All players can only match with Eternity and other One Above All-ranked players.
If you can persuade some friends to get the game and join you in competitive mode, get them to use your Marvel Rivals Assemble code to get rewards.
Marvel Rivals competitive rewards
At the end of each season, you can get some Marvel Rivals competitive rewards based on the highest rank you achieved in the season. These include Crests of Honor, which can be applied to your player card to show off your skills.
For the current competitive season, Season 0, you can get the following rewards:
- Golden Moonlight Moon Knight costume: Reach Gold III or higher
- Silver Crest of Honor: Reach Grandmaster III, II, I or Eternity
- Gold Crest of Honor: Be one of the Top 500 players at the end of the season
