With this Starfield Shattered Space guide, we’ll help you start the DLC and get to helping House Va’ruun in the wake of a cataclysmic experiment-gone-wrong. With the house in disarray, it’s your job as Starfield’s almighty chosen one to join the religious group, align all the major factions within House Va’ruun, and uncover the mysteries of the Vortex and the Great Serpent. There are a lot of choices to make in these missions, and even several new weapons to look out for if you want to represent House Va’ruun with your chosen weaponry. Here’s everything you need to know about the Shattered Space Starfield expansion.

In our Starfield Shattered Space review, we said that it’s “a solid expansion that presents lots of choices and exploration, but doesn't really deliver on the horror aspect Bethesda teased”. While there are some highlights and intriguing moments, the expansion doesn’t quite go all in on House Va’ruun’s weirdness either.

How to begin the Starfield DLC

Bought the DLC but aren’t sure how to kick things off? Getting things started isn’t especially clear so our guide on how to start Starfield Shattered Space will help. Remember that it’s an expansion for all your existing saves rather than a separate experience from the main game, so you can just load up any of your characters and get started.

With the DLC focusing entirely on House Va’ruun, you’ll find and be rewarded with several Shattered Space new weapons from the faction, including a laser minigun, a new melee weapon, and special new grenades.

Which effigies should you choose in Shattered Space?

Once you make it to Va’ruun’kai, one of the first things you’ll do is undertake the Serpent’s Path, which ends with you having to choose two Starfield Shattered Space effigies out of four and get yourself a new title like a true House Va’ruun initiate.

After that, you can begin freely exploring Dazra and Va’ruun’kai and there are lots of side missions you can pick up just from wandering the city – one of the first you’ll probably happen across is the Starfield The Duel mission, which sees you getting roped into a feud between two brothers.

Align the houses in Shattered Space

The longest section of the main DLC questline is when you must align the major houses within House Va’ruun to help you learn about the event that caused the Scaled Citadel to be blocked off and created the Vortex Phantoms. This quest step actually involves completing several missions, three of which are for those major houses:
