Akimbot is a new 3D platformer featuring a robot duo that looks like it'll take me back to the early-2000s
Akimbot's launch trailer provides a great look at the robotic chaos that the duo of Exe and Shipset are capable of
Sci-fi, 3D platformer Akimbot reveals a new launch trailer at the Future Games Show at Gamescom Presented by Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII, giving us the best look yet at the robot duo's antics on their universe-saving adventure.
From developer Evil Raptor Games and publisher Plaion, Akimbot sees you take control of Exe and Shipset – two misfit robots who are thrust together in a prison break, forming an unlikely duo who must bring down a terrible evil in classic 2000s-era platformer fashion.
Evilware is Akimbot's main antagonist, a former scientist searching for a deadly artifact, and he's got vast armies of diverse robots ready to cut down anyone that tries to ruin his plans. Your mission to bring him down leads you to all sorts of exotic locales. You'll need to dash, grapple, wall-run, and more, to traverse a galaxy of vibrant planets with exotic climates and terrains. You'll even get to pilot cars, spaceships, and even a robot dinosaur with lasers shooting out its eyes!
With plenty of inspiration from formative 3D platformers like Ratchet and Clank, Exe and Shipset's arsenal of weapons, gadgets, and upgrades are very important. You'll unlock and improve powerful armaments as you turn Evilware's forces to scrap, and you can gather Botcoins as you explore, which can later be spent at shops to get even more weapons and mods. You'll need to use everything in your collection to help you uncover Evilware's machinations and cause chaos amidst an intergalactic war.
Akimbot arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam on August 29, so you'll be able to check it out pretty soon! In the meantime, get it on your Steam wishlist and follow the game on Twitter for all the latest while you wait for launch day.
