The Dragon Age Veilguard Minrathous or Treviso choice appears with no warning, forcing you to help one city and companion over another. Unfortunately, there aren’t really any good outcomes for this choice either, as both places being simultaneously menaced by Blight Dragons under the control of Ghilan’nain means one Dragon Age The Veilguard city is going to suffer a lot more than the other, along with the respective faction and companion – Neve and the Shadow Dragons for Minrathous and Lucanis and the Antivan Crows for Treviso. To help you make this tricky choice, I’ve laid out the outcomes for defending Minrathous or Treviso in Dragon Age Veilguard below.

Obviously, spoilers ahead for what happens after you make this major Dragon Age Veilguard choice.

Your decision to help either Minrathous or Treviso in Dragon Age Veilguard is largely down to which Dragon Age Veilguard companion and faction you don’t want to upset – in short, defending Treviso will annoy Neve and cause the Shadow Dragons to suffer a lot and defending Minrathous will annoy Lucanis and harm the Antivan Crows.

Overall, I think saving Minrathous is the marginally better choice, but only because the Antivan Crows lose just 100 Strength from this choice, compared to the -250 Strength the Shadow Dragons suffer when saving Treviso. However, bear in mind that this choice also completely locks out Lucanis as a Dragon Age Veilguard romance option.

Otherwise, while there are some specific outcomes which I’ve explained further down, the broader consequences for each choice are very similar: side quests auto-fail, the faction merchant dies, fast travel beacons deactivate, and the relevant companion gains the Dragon Age Veilguard Hardened effect. The choice also does not affect your game’s ending.

If you’re not happy with your decision, you can always reload a save, especially since you’re forced into this decision right after recruiting Davrin to your Veilguard team, with no chance to avoid it. Since auto-failing side quests is an important aspect of both choices, you might want to load an even earlier save to clear those off your map and journal before completing the A Warden’s Best Friend quest.

Opting to defend Minrathous in Dragon Age Veilguard puts you onto the “On Blighted Wings” quest in which you fight the Blight Dragon in Minrathous, only for it get called away by Ghilan’nain, saving the city from further Blight damage. Because of your decision, the follow happens:

  • Treviso is overrun by the Blight and lots of civilians die.
  • All inactive and incomplete Treviso side quests are automatically failed or become unavailable. New ones appear later that are relevant to the effects of the Blight and when you return, all Dragon Age Veilguard fast travel beacons must be reactivated to use them.
  • The Antivan Crows merchant dies but can appear later in the Crossroads.
  • Lucanis gains the Hardened effect and stays in Treviso to help until you unlock the rest of the companions. He also cannot be romanced after this.
  • +550 Shadow Dragons Strength (+400 from completing On Blighted Wings and +150 bonus for choosing to save Treviso)
  • -100 Antivan Crows Strength

Choosing to defend Treviso in Dragon Age Veilguard begins the quest “On Deadly Wings” in which you, Lucanis, and another companion fight the Blight Dragon in Treviso, but it gets called away by Ghilan’nain, saving the city from the full force of the Blight. It has the following effects:

  • Minrathous is overrun by the Blight. This gives the Venatori the opportunity they need to take over, increasing their presence across the city.
  • All inactive and incomplete Minrathous side quests are automatically failed or become unavailable. New ones appear later that are relevant to the effects of the Blight and when you return, all fast travel beacons must be reactivated to use them.
  • Shadow Dragon leader Viper is dying having been afflicted with the Blight. The Shadow Dragon merchant is also gone but can appear later in the Crossroads.
  • Neve gains the Hardened effect and stays in Minrathous to help until you unlock the rest of the companions.
  • +550 Antivan Crows Strength (+400 from completing On Deadly Wings and +150 bonus for choosing to save Treviso)
  • -250 Shadow Dragons Strength

It’s no secret that tough choices in games can make some of the best RPGs, but you can find out how Dragon Age 4 stacks up in our Dragon Age The Veilguard review.
