Plus, a bunch of in-game rewards for playing with aforementioned mechs – what's not to love?

As someone that's been a sicko for zombie survival games since the humble days of flash browsers (RIP The Last Stand), there are few things capable of making undead apocalypses cooler. But credit where credit's due, strategy game Doomsday: Last Survivors has found a way – through a crossover with Guillermo del Toro's kaiju-busting action gem Pacific Rim.
Am I jumping ahead? Sorry – mechs tend to have that effect. For the uninitiated, Doomsday: Last Survivors is a strategy-survival game where the goal is to lead a band of survivors in fighting off undead and unfriendly survivors alike, upgrading your shelter along the way to up your chances of staying alive.
Anyway: mechs. During the Pacific Rim: Doomsday event, which will run in Doomsday: Last Survivors from February 1 to March 31, you'll be able to throw the heroes and villains of Pacific Rim into the mix, and snag some extra Bounty Roulette rewards while you're at it. Check it out below:
During the event, Kaiju fans will be able to grab both Otachi and Knifehead and deploy them via the Biochemical Beasts system, while my fellow mech enjoyers can grab an Iron Heart shelter skin. The interior design doesn't end there – you can also snag shelter decorations Kaiju Receptable, Holographic Console, Ready for Action, and Beast of the Sea, along with a super rare Steel Body chat bubble.
But I'm saving the best until last, as Jack Bronte will be bringing the one and only Gipsy Avenger to said shelter. Jaeger Pilots will be able to use the Z3 Combat Tractor as a vehicle, while commanders with 2M Might will be able to transform into Gipsy Avenger while blasting the film's sweeping theme – which, fun fact, is by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi!
If you're thinking of jumping into Doomsday: Last Survivors for the first time, now seems like a particularly prudent time to do so. Throughout February, there are a couple of chances to snag further freebies – participating in Pacific Rim: Doomsday will grant the adorably-named Egg Coins, which can be used to draw prizes. Likewise, through March you'll be able to gather Antimatter Cores to draw prizes and gain Dimension Coins, which can be spent on exclusive items during the event. Admittedly this is a lot of information to throw at you, so if your brain needs two minutes to soak it all in, I'll leave this clip of a mech battering kaiju in Pacific Rim and say nothing if you decide to watch it at work.
A couple of battle passes will also be available to work through, along with a Crimson Typhoon (yes, one of Pacific Rim's coolest Jaagers) Squad Skin to unlock by using energy keys between February 15 and March 31. Throughout Pacific Rim: Doomsday, you'll also be able to play a neat minigame that challenges players to sort Kaiju Blue between vials, though good luck washing that out if it spills.

Elsewhere, there are a couple of real-world cash prizes up for grabs. Players will be able to share Doomsday: Last Survivors event page once per day to be able to spin a rewards wheel, with prizes ranging from in-game goodies to a $500 Amazon gift card. Even just visiting the page each day will put you in the running for one of the cards, and through February and March, inviting any of your lapsed pals to start playing again can potentially net either of you a $50 Amazon gift card. Not bad at all, especially when you have the added bonus of mashing zombies, kaijus and mechs together like massive action figures.
If you've read this far purely based on the vibes of zombies and mechs, two things. First: here's another banging Pacific Rim fight, as a treat. Second: you should actually play! You can download Doomsday: Last Survivors directly here or on PC or iOS, and check out its website for more events like this – although, yes, Pacific Rim is a pretty high bar to clear for future updates. While you're at it, the game's multiplayer elements mean it's probably worth dropping by Doomsday: Last Survivors' Discord and Facebook channels – besides squeezing some much-needed socializing into apocalyptic life, these are likely the best places to stay informed on whatever come next. Which, hopefully, is more mechs – always choose more mechs.
