Funcom: From MMOGs, with love
Interview: Age of Conan developer discusses the increasingly popular MMOG genre
Can there only ever be one MMOG that's THE MMOG at any one time due to the subscription model and investment of time required? How many people dedicate their time to more than one MMOG at a time...?
Ellingsen: Yes and no. What developers need to do, and what Funcom is paying particular attention to, is to create massively multiplayer online games that are different.
Releasing a World of Warcraft clone might not be such a good idea seeing Blizzard already did a brilliant job at it, and people are most likely going to stick with the best alternative if the games are that similar in terms of content, features and setting.
