Any film that starts with the sound of a shitting eight-year-old truly knows discomfort.

Here, Victoria Justice is the high schooler stuck with babysitting her kooky brother whom she loses on her way to the party, and instead ends up riding round in a station wagon full of nerds.

Josh Schwartz’s film takes some pokes at its fright-night setting but feels like The Goonies if they’d taken an hour and a half to get to Ma Fratelli’s, bitching about cliques all the way.

The cast try hard and are rewarded with some zesty dialogue, but remain shackled to the girl-with-dead-dad-grows-up formula.
