Full line-up for FrightFest 2011 is announced

kill list

The full line-up for this year’s Film4 FrightFest has been released, and it’s another cracker of a programme.

Taking place at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square between 25-29 August, the schedule contains a record 10 British films and horrors from all around the world – including Israel and Switzerland.

A total of 37 spine-tinglers are included in the event, with bloodthirsty topics including killer santas, troll hunting, carrot-wielding psychos and even a werewolf musical.

This is Total Film ’s third year in partnership with FrightFest, and every year we get behind one film in particular that we know is going to rock the world.

For 2011, we’re shoving our stamp of approval on gut-wrenching chiller Kill List (above), a British offering from Down Terrace director Ben Wheatley.

It follows an ex-soldier who's become a hitman, and heads off on a violent mission.

“Given to gloriously unpredictable, violent mood swings, Kill List is the best British genre film in some years,” says Jamie Graham, Deputy Editor of Total Film .

Down Terrace announced director Ben Wheatley as One To Watch. Kill List ensures that Hollywood will now snap to attention too.”

15:05 The Total Film Interview
Larry Fessenden in conversation with Jamie Graham

Larry Fessenden is the most underrated American filmmaker working in horror today. His four features (No Telling, Habit, Wendigo, The Last Winter) have established the 48-year-old New Yorker’s inimitable brand of low-key, naturalistic scares, and his haunting work often exhibits heartfelt ecological concerns while featuring real people in recognisable surroundings – even when his protagonists are vampires.

Josh Winning has worn a lot of hats over the years. Contributing Editor at Total Film, writer for SFX, and senior film writer at the Radio Times. Josh has also penned a novel about mysteries and monsters, is the co-host of a movie podcast, and has a library of pretty phenomenal stories from visiting some of the biggest TV and film sets in the world. He would also like you to know that he "lives for cat videos..." Don't we all, Josh. Don't we all.
