Full-length trailer for The BFG visits the fantastical world of the giants

It's not everyday that one of the world's most celebrated directors decides to adapt a tale by one of the world's most celebrated writers. When both just happen to be masters in the realm of fantasy storytelling, well, that gives us another reason to get excited. Steven Spielberg's take on Roald Dahl's The BFG is a Big Deal. We already knew that when we got our first glimpse at a teaser trailer last year, and today's full trailer continues to draw us into the world of big friendly giants.

Spielberg's follow-up to Bridge of Spies centers on a young girl named Sophie who meets a big friendly giant (the BFG) and is quickly whisked away to Giant Country. It's there that she learns of a race of not-very-friendly giants who quite like eating children. Sophie teams up with the Queen of England and The BFG to stop this bunch of meanies once and for all. If that initial teaser didn't quite sell you on the story, then this extended version ought to do the trick:

Compared to what we've seen before, this trailer delves a lot deeper into the film and gives us our first proper look at the giant's homeland. It's all very Spielbergian - what with the sweeping score and sheer wonderment seen on Sophie's face. Like all adaptations there's reason to be cautious, but it looks like Dahl's story is in safe hands.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Ruby Thornhill, Mark Rylance, Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader and Penelope Wilton, The BFG opens in US theaters on July 1, 2016 followed by a UK release on July 22, 2016.
