Why you can trust 12DOVE
Deserving placement next to Primer on the small-but-significant ‘sci-fi for sod-all’ shelf, this shows great promise from British director Darren Paul Fisher. The concept is high – a parallel world where destinies are determined by ‘frequencies’ we emit that are somehow scientific manifestations of fate – but the narrative is down-to-earth, focusing on the chemistry between a frequency-mandated winner and loser.
Tackling big themes like free will, this is intelligently wrought stuff, if reserved when it comes to pushing the emotional buttons. The lack of cash, at times, leads to an over-reliance on monologuing, so somebody give Fisher a budget, sharpish.
