Frank Marshall says there are no plans for a Matt Damon / Jeremy Renner Bourne film
With Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass returning to the Bourne series, a question mark lies over Jeremy Renner’s ongoing involvement in the franchise, with executive producer Frank Marshall revealing there are no plans for the two actors to co-star in any future film.
“We don’t have plans for that,” says Marshall to Collider, when asked whether Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross’s stories will intersect. “You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks.”
He went on to clarify that Renner has a future in the wider franchise, although it certainly seems as though the focus at present is on the returning Damon and Greengrass…
“It was really the challenge of finding the story,” explains Marshall. “If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn’t have a story. It’s taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to. Now, we’re moving forward.”
Directed by Greengrass and starring Damon in the title role, the fifth film in the Bourne franchise will open in the US on 29 July 2016, with a UK date to be confirmed.
