Frank Grillo cast in The Raid remake
Jujitsu blackbelt will get to show off his moves
The English-language remake of The Raid has added Frank Grillo to its cast, with the Captain America 2 star confirming his involvement in a recent interview.
"I just got hired to do [ the remake of ] The Raid ," confirms Grillo. "I loved [ the original ] so we’ve got to do this justice. It’s a fanboy favourite."
"What people don’t know is that I’m a blackbelt in jujitsu, which I’ve been for 20 years, and I’ve been boxing since I’ve been 15 years old – those are things that come natural to me."
Sounds like good grounding for the role, while Grillo is also keen to point out that the script for the new film won't ride roughshod over the things that made the original so good.
"The script is great," says Grillo. "[ I’m] one of the three main characters and, you know, I’m excited about it."
"I can’t wait to actually go do it because it’s gonna be Americanized, but not overtly Americanized. It’s really gonna keep a lot of what made the first Raid so great."
Directed by Patrick Hughes, The Raid is expected to begin production early next year, with a release date to be confirmed.
