Enabling Fortnite 2FA, or multi-factor authentication, on your Epic Games account is the best way to keep it secure and significantly reduce the risk posed by hackers. While it isn't a general requirement to turn on this two factor authentication, the additional security it provides makes it absolutely worthwhile, as an extra check will be performed whenever you enter your password to confirm it's definitely you trying to access your Fortnite account – usually this is done by sending you a code in an SMS message or asking you to provide a response through an authenticator app. Plus, when you set up 2FA for the first time you'll receive the exclusive Boogie Down emote and a selection of useful items in Save the World for free. If that all sounds good, then here's how to set up Fortnite 2FA on your account.

To enable two factor on your Fortnite account, simply head to Fortnite.com/2FA. Log in to your Epic Games account and underneath the option to change your password, you should see the prompt to enable either email 2FA or authenticator app 2FA. Pick your preferred choice and follow the instructions on screen to enable Fortnite 2FA authentication.

Fortnite two factor authentication, 2FA, or multi-factor authentication makes your account more secure by requiring a second layer of authentication when logging into your account. The way it works is that whenever the game detects a login from a new device, it will ask for proof that it's you in one of two ways. You'll either be asked for a code sent only to the account holder via email, or be asked for a code from an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. It means your account should be completely secure against hacks and password leaks.

If you're a regular player with plenty of gear in your locker that you've bought or earned over time, you definitely don't want to risk losing it or access to your account, so Fortnite 2FA should be a priority for you.

While you don't have to have 2FA enabled in Fortnite to play the game, there are some features, such as gifting items and playing in tournaments, that are unavailable without doing so. And if you don't activate two-factor authentication, you'll miss out on the Boogie Down emote...

Enabling 2FA on your account will get you the Fortnite Boogie Down emote, so the next time you log in you should receive your reward automatically. And if you're playing Save the World, you'll also get 50 armory slots, 10 backpack slots, and one Legendary Troll Stash Llama. If you haven't got Fortnite 2FA yet, then here's another good reason to do so – you'll soon have a brand new dance to use in-game!
