Ring Fit Adventure might look like something you need to carve out time in the day for, but the beauty is that it can fit anywhere—whether that’s a spare ten minutes on a school morning (some chance) or getting the whole family doing something active for an hour on an otherwise lazy Sunday.

The best thing about Ring Fit, though, is that the kids look forward to it. You might know you’re introducing the kind of regular exercise habit that will keep them healthy and in good shape but, as far as they’re concerned, this is the game where you sprint through a colourful and gorgeous world while battering dragons whilst jumping around. Playing Ring Fit Adventure together can take the experience to a different level, and here are five tips to help you squeeze some exercise into every day—but especially the busy ones.

1. Treat it like a group activity

Ring Fit Adventure doesn’t have to be to be played on your own: it’s so much more fun when you have others to take turns with. The game can adapt to give you each a leisurely workout, where the back-seat drivers can encourage air blasts and critique daddy’s attempt at a squat, or a more intense five minute blast through some moves. And if your kids have any kind of a competitive streak, you’ll quickly find them struggling to out-do each other with (whisper it) a range of exercises that give their whole body a workout.

2. Have it on during school mornings

Ring Fit Adventure can be played as a story, or you can set it up to whizz through various minigames. Rather than cartoons first thing, make the kids cycle through some of these activities with each other while you’re off finding some tights or cooking the porridge: Crate Crasher, where you destroy a lot of boxes, is a good choice. Ring Fit is not about intense workouts but regular, consistent activity that will add up to better physical health, and its short-form exercises can fit into any morning routine where there are a few spare minutes.

3. Take Ring Fit Adventure anywhere

The Switch can go everywhere, and Ring Fit works just as effectively on the small screen as the big. Whether you’re visiting relatives, going on holiday, or just taking off for a few days the Switch and Ring Fit equipment is compact and can keep you and the kids in good habits even when it’s half-an-hour showing it off to their cousins. You could even take it into the office yourself but, hey, let’s not overdo things.

4. Customise the routines for the time you have

There are many ways to play Ring Fit Adventure straight out of the box, but you can also construct your own routines out of the available exercises—and even set a reminder so the Switch prompts you into it. Need to get into the habit of some after-school exercise? Choose the routines you want and assemble a custom playlist that will prompt you and the kids into twenty minutes of activity just before dinner on weekdays.

5. Show off with those victory poses!

Everyone loves flaunting their style, and a part of Ring Fit Adventure kids (and adults!) love is throwing a sleek victory pose at the end of every short stage. The arguments over whose is best nearly always leads to another attempt, and capturing your kids’ poses on your smartphone to show them only adds to the fun. Ring Fit Adventure is a physical and shared activity, and kids love having their time to shine: so amp it up, and watch them work out for it.
