First Star Trek Into Darkness clip: watch now

Star Trek Into Darkness has released a new clip online, and it’s taken from the action-packed prologue that played in front of IMAX showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey .

The sequence finds Spock (Zachary Quinto) stranded inside an active volcano in the middle of a mission to save class M planet, Nibiru. The half-Vulcan was dropped in magma-mountain in a bid to save the indigenous species from an imminent eruption, but the situation has become too dangerous for the Enterprise crew, and Kirk’s (Chris Pine) got a tough choice to make.

Spock gets to deliver a choice line of dialogue in the clip, that harks back directly to fan favourite The Wrath Of Kha n .

As he proved with the opening sequence of the 2009 reboot, Abrams is a dab hand at generating tension immediately, with next to no pre-amble, and this scene is no exception. And if anyone's worried that the clip will only resonate with hardcore Trekkies, fear not - it should also appeal to fans of attractive actors in skin-tight wetsuits.
