First look at Mr. Freeze in Batman: Arkham City

Mr. Freeze has finally been confirmed as a major villain in Batman: Arkham City, thanks to this new gameplay trailer from Rocksteady Studios. While we’ve suspected his appearance for over a year now(the actor voicing Mr. Freezelet that fact slip way back in April 2010, before the sequel even had an official title), this is our very first look at his costume, superpowers and role in the game. Watch:

The ice gun, bubble helmet and glowing red eyes are classic Mr. Freeze, but the force field and remote scanning drones are new. Clearly, this boss battle will require a mixture of stealth and gadgetry to win, though if Batman doesn’t throw a thermos of hot chicken soup at some point, we’ll be very disappointed. Speaking of old ‘90s cartoon references, it’s also worth noting that this backstory for Dr. Victor Fries- that he’s just trying to save his wife Nora- originated with Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini, the same guy responsible for scripting Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
