First fantastic Suicide Squad trailer appears online

Well this is exciting! After David Ayer's first-look Comic-Con footage leaked online over the weekend, Warner Bros has taken the decision to release a hi-res, fully official version of the first Suicide Squad trailer. And it's absolutely superb.

Clocking in at just over three minutes in length, the new trailer introduces all the key players in the titular team of super-villains, as their handler Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) outlines her plan to utilise their abilities, while also reserving the right to pin the blame on them if things go wrong.

From Killer Croc to Captain Boomerang, all of DC's rogues gallery are present and correct, with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn looking set to steal the show. That is, of course, until her sometime boyfriend shows up right at the close…

Check out the new trailer, below…

We're sure there will still be some naysayers who aren't sold on Jared Leto's Joker, but judging from what we've seen here, we're fully on board. Meanwhile, it's interesting to see how closely the film seems to be linked to the rest of the DC universe, with Superman getting a namecheck and Batman's cameo up there for all to see. Looks like Warner's universe-building is coming along nicely.

Directed by Ayer and co-starring Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and many more, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on 5 August 2016. Which isn't nearly soon enough…
