How to find and catch Piko the chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Here's how to find Piko in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and be the best chocobo wrangler
To find and catch Piko the chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you'll need to do some tracking across the Grasslands to find your feathered friend before sneaking up and taming them as your mount. This is part of the main scenario quest 'Chocobo Wrangling' that begins when you've reached Bill's Ranch in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and will lead to you getting the first chocobo of your adventure. However, it might not be clear to you which direction you need to head in to find the bird, or how to make it yours once you get there, so here's a breakdown of how to find and catch Piko in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth by successfully completing the mini-game and sending him back to the ranch.
How to find Piko the chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Once you get the quest from Billy in the ranch to find Piko in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you'll want to look for chocobo tracks on the ground to find his trail. Just outside the entrance of the ranch to the left, there will be footprints on the ground that can be hard to make out at first. Thankfully there are some tell-tale yellow feathers to help you spot them. Following these tracks, the footprints will lead you down a path to the right just outside the entrance. Keep on this path and make your way down the bottom of the hill and you'll arrive at the location Piko ran off to. Now it's time to catch a chocobo.
How to catch Piko the chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
In order to catch Piko in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you'll need to successfully complete a mini-game that requires you to sneak your way to the chocobo without being spotted. With Piko's packmates standing between you and your feathered friend, you'll need to use the grass to hide and make your way past the first chocobo. With another packmate to the left who will turn around at set intervals, your best bet is to press Circle just as it's turning away from you to make it into the grass up ahead. Once there, you'll get your hands on some rocks you can throw to distract the bird.
Again, it's all about timing and the spot you throw your rock - it's quite easy to get spotted at the final hurdle, so you'll want to make sure you throw your rock in the direction facing away from you so Piko will turn his back to you. Then you'll be able to sneak up behind the bird before he turns back around, and wrangle yourself a chocobo. Riding on these creatures may not be quite a quick as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fast travel, but they'll certainly help you cross shorter distances or explore areas more rapidly than on foot.

I started out writing for the games section of a student-run website as an undergrad, and continued to write about games in my free time during retail and temp jobs for a number of years. Eventually, I earned an MA in magazine journalism at Cardiff University, and soon after got my first official role in the industry as a content editor for Stuff magazine. After writing about all things tech and games-related, I then did a brief stint as a freelancer before I landed my role as a staff writer here at 12DOVE. Now I get to write features, previews, and reviews, and when I'm not doing that, you can usually find me lost in any one of the Dragon Age or Mass Effect games, tucking into another delightful indie, or drinking far too much tea for my own good.
