Fewer robots in Transformers 3

Last week it was confirmed that the third Transformers flick could begin shooting as early as May this year.

Lots of us groaned. But Michael Bay has thrown some interesting thoughts in the air while attending a presentation in Hollywood regarding the use of sound in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (hint: it was loud ).

Hero Complex reported on the event, stating:

“Although the number of robots increased significantly from the first film for the second, the third film — which will hit theaters in summer 2011, won't be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions, a tight-lipped Bay said after the Q+A.”

Interesting. So perhaps Bay has learnt from the over-stuffed second Transformers , and plans to rectify things for the third outing?

It certainly seems that way. Here’s what he said:

“There will be a nice crescendo ending. It gets much more into the robot character. The last time you kind of met a few of the robots; this time you’re gonna get a much cooler landscape.”

We’re assuming - nay, hoping - he’s talking about a story-telling landscape rather than Antarctica. The second Transformers slipped up over its shoddy scriptwork, which acted merely to get characters from one giant explosion to another.

If Bay genuinely wants to take things in a more interesting direction, we’re listening.

Want to see Decepticons braiding each others’ hair and getting in touch with their feelings? Give us a shout...
