Fast & Furious 7 delayed indefinitely
Universal postpone production in wake of Paul Walker's tragic death
Following the tragic and shocking death of Paul Walker, Universal has officially announced that it is putting production of Fast & Furious 7 on indefinite hiatus.
While many had assumed the production would be suspended, Universal's full statement clarifies the situation with compassionate sincerity.
"Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers," reads the missive. "At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker."
As such, it's looking very unlikely the movie will keep its July 2014 release date, and whether the footage filmed so far will be scrapped in favour of a full rewrite is still very much up in the air.
Universal have also announced that they're set to donate a percentage of profits from home-media sales of Fast & Furious 6 to Walker's charity Reach Out Worldwide.
They have also released a video tribute to the star, which you can watch below.
