Far Cry HD rated in Brazil

The original Far Cry is set to get the HD re-release treatment, according to the Brazilian ratings board, the same classification body that outed last month’s Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon ahead of its official announcement. Far Cry HD is listed for release on Xbox 360 and PS3. The original Far Cry was developed by Crytek and launched as a PC exclusive back in 2004.

A number of spin-offs and two numbered sequels have subsequently been released. The series reached a commercial highpoint with the most recent core entry, 2012’s Far Cry 3, which sold six million copies in the fiscal year ended March 31. The possibility of Ubisoft further leveraging the brand ahead of the release of a new, mainline next-gen entry in the series would therefore be unsurprising, although Far Cry HD has yet to be confirmed.

Speaking about the franchise earlier this month, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said: “The success of Far Cry 3 confirmed our strong comeback in the major segment of shooter games… We began fiscal 2012-13 with two major franchises: Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance. Twelve months later, we have substantially extended our reach by establishing Far Cry as another major franchise.”
