With all these Vaults springing up everywhere, humanity's future is looking pretty bright… assuming the damn water treatment rooms stop catching fire. Bethesda Softworks announced that Fallout Shelter, its free-to-play Vault-management mobile game, is now the top downloaded App Store game in 48 countries around the world.
Fallout Shelter is also the most-downloaded app of any kind in 25 countries, which is pretty impressive for a game that was both announced and released a week and a half ago. Bethesda's particularly proud of its non-intrusive microtransaction scheme, though it may be a bit too non-intrusive; Fallout Shelter's fallen to sixth place in the top-grossing charts as of this writing, yielding its third-place slot back to Candy Crush Saga.
“We play games on our phones all the time, and have always wanted to make one,” Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard said in a press release. “To have our first mobile game be enjoyed by so many is stunning. It just shows that gamers appreciate more depth and being treated fairly. It also shows people love Fallout as much as we do.”
Fallout Shelter's climbing download charts worldwide, but it still isn't available on the world's most popular mobile operating system - Bethesda noted in the press release that Fallout Shelter's "currently in development" for Android devices.
