Fallout: New Vegas's Honest Hearts DLC incompatible with some save files

Some Fallout: New Vegas players are reporting that an oldbug from the main game is preventing them from playing the latest Honest Hearts expansion. And by "reporting" we mean "complaining bitterly." And by that, we mean "wondering why they can't ever play Fallout: New Vegas without something screwing up."

The issues are apparently tied into the notorious ED-E glitch, a bug held over from the main gamewhich was named after a robotic companion who had the annoying habit of getting lost, losing equipment, disobeying orders and generally being a useless mechanicalasshat. Bethesda and Obsidianmadenumerous attempts tofix ED-E's flawsover the last year, but now it appears thatremnants of the bug are making it impossible for some players to move forward in Honest Hearts.

"We are aware of the issue and are working on a fix for the next patch," wrote Bethesda's community manager Nick Breckon on the studio's blog, admitting, "That said, if you already have a save game where the bug is occurring, the fix will not apply and you'll need to revert to an earlier save prior to ED-E leaving in order to play through Honest Hearts."

Since ED-E can leave hours before the final act in New Vegas's main campaign, this ultimately means some Honest Heart hopefuls are SOL unless they had the presence of mind to keep a few old saves hanging around. As forum poster FrankBroWest said:

"How many earlier saves are you expecting us to keep? With a game as large as this, with so much going on, and only so many save spots for multiple playthroughs, how can you honestly keep expecting people to have a back up of moments before an issue may have taken place? Understand that for many this is not an acceptable solution and we need real fixes before any more DLC."

Honest Hearts takes the wastelandpicnic to Utah's Zion National Park. It was released May 17th for Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 version has been delayed indefinitely. That may be for the best.
