Fallout 76 power armor and best locations to find it fast
Finding power armor in Fallout 76 means visiting certain spots and hoping it spawns
Knowing where to find Fallout 76 power armor is largely luck. While there are set locations it can appear in, it's random - both in terms of if any is there, and as to what bits are on it. Getting a full set of anything, let alone something made of matching parts, is going to take a while as you visit and revisit places.
To help you I've compiled a map, below, of the 19 best places to find power armor in Fallout 76, with a potential 25 power armor spawn locations. It's not a definitive list of everything, just a good set of locations you can reliable farm to see what turns up. You'll also need fusion cores to run your armor which usually be found in the power generators you occasionally find near armor on the Fallout 76 map - if the generator's lit up, there's a fusion core to take.
Now, let's take a look at everything you need to know about finding Fallout 76 power armor and fusion cores, as well the different level constraints various types have.
Recent updates
The Fallout 76 power armor guide has been updated to reflect the ongoing changes to several locations after updates. While the locations are all still correct, enemies, factions and other details are different.
How to use Fallout 76 power armor
Finding Fallout 76 power armor is a case of checking places where it might spawn to see if any has appeared. It's completely random as to if any is there and to what it might have on it - generally you'll find 2-3 pieces of armor on a Power Chassis. So it'll take a while to find a full set of arms, legs, torso and head, and even longer to make it all match.
There's no level limit on the Power Chassis, but there is on the pieces. So if you find some armor with parts a higher level than you are, you'll haves to strip it to use it. Even a bare frame has bonuses, increasing strength, boosting all forms of damage resistance and making you immune to falling damage.
The level restrictions break down as follows:
- Raider Power Armor - level 15+
- T-45 Power Armor - level 25+
- T-51 Power Armor - level 30+
- T-60 Power Armor - level 40+
- X-01 Power Armor - level 50
There’s also a new Fallout 76 form of excavator armor that boosts resources when mining. That's crafted and unlocked as part of a mission called Miner Miracles that you can only access at level 25.
As well as needing to hit the level requirements, you will also need a fusion core to power it. Without that you won't be able to do anything. Fusion cores can be found in generators that often appear near power armor locations so always check around.
Fallout 76 power armor map locations
There are 25 Fallout 76 armor locations shown here, with two at the airport. These are mostly some of the easiest spots to check if you want get a set together quickly, although you will encounter some enemies here and there so check to details for any potential dangers.
Just remember that spawns are random, so there might not be anything at a given location. You'll either want to travel around trying them all or log out and restart to effectively reroll the world and its spawns. You'll also obviously have no say in what bits are on the armor so it'll probably take a while to collect a full set of gear.
- Sludge Works/Striker Row/Red Rockets - The Ash Heap maybe isn't the best place to go away as you'll need breathing protection and probably a half decent level to survive but you'll get three swings at finding some power armor. Firstly, at the Sludge Works (the point marked on the map) you can find some near a large yellow machine by the water once you clear all the Blood Eagles out. There can also be some power armor at Striker Row (near the trees far south) that appears in a rock alcove near some road barriers lying on the floor and a trailer. There's also some at a Red Rockets station (near the yellow truck on the map) that appears around the back by the large red fuel containers.
- Nuka-Cola plant - You can’t really miss the Nuka-Cola plant once you get near it because the building is a giant bottle. Head south/south west of Vault 76 and you should find it near a fork in the river. Once inside (you might need to pick a lock) find the basement and look for a big room with a yellow crane/bulldozer type machine. You can find some power armor in a stand in the corner.
- Point Pleasant - Aim for the 'M' of the Mothman sign on the map for Point Pleasant and look for a green pharmacy. Facing west so you can see the pharmacy and the bridge, you should see stairs between the two. Go up them and you should see a building with a hole smashed in the wall. Head through the hole and immediately up the stairs when you come out the other side so that your on top of the building you went through. You should see a wooden path over the top of the bridge so take that and then the second right hand fork you encounter about half way. Look down to your right as you reach the next rooftop and you should see some power armor near a red sofa.
- WV Lumber Co - In the far north west of the map, near the river, you’ll find the WV Lumber Co. It used to be full of super mutants but has since become a much safer base for the Free Radical faction. There's a two story warehouse to the east, among the shipping containers that has two power armour stands inside where you might find some armor.
- Hornwright Industrial Mining Company - In Charlestown, south of Vault 76 near a river junction, there's a mission called The Motherlode in the Hornwright Industrial Mining building. If you haven't done it there's a chance you'll find some power armor at the bottom of some stairs in the sub room where the drill machine comes out. But, even after the mission's done, you can continue to revisit the area and check - when you enter the building take the lift to the executive floor where you'll find another lift to the sub-level behind blue lasers.
- The Crosshairs - There's a small Blood Eagle base at in the rocky area of the map where you might find some power armor either under the cave outcropping, or by the stairs to the tower. Interestingly, we were able to make some armor spawn by going in the cave and coming out again so try that if you don't find anything first time. Just be prepared to fight a lot of Blood eagles.
- Aaronholdt Homestead - North, and a touch west of Vault 73, you’ll find a farm called the Aaronholdt Homestead. To the south you'll see three large grain silos with a power generator outside (grab the core if it's there). In side the nearby shack is a power armor stand that sometimes has armor. You'll need to find the key if you can't pick it open, which is on a nearby body.
- Eastern Regional Penitentiary - There are loads of ghouls, super mutants and floaters here so not an easy one to check. However, if you can clear it out, or run in and out fast, there's a fenced off shack in the center of the yard by a tower. Inside are a couple of power armor stands that might spawn armor. Go around the back of the building to find holes in the wall to get inside.
- Morgantown Train Yard - Near MorganTown, east of Vault 76, you'll find a train yard. On the western side there's a watch tower and between the two warehouses in front of it you should find a green army train carriage. Inside you'll occasionally find some power armor.
- Silva Homestead - At the Silva homestead you'll see a singler grain silo with a round topped barn next to it. Inside the barn is a power armor frame and a few low level radroaches.
- Camp Venture - Find camp Venture in the south east of the map and you might find some power armor In the yard.
- Watoga x 6 - This is a great place to check with six potential spawns in close proximity. the only downside is the area is full of aggressive robots so it's not great for anything other than max level checking. And even then, keep running. Near the big tower in Watoga, in the south east of the map, you’ll find a crashed vertibird and signs of a fight. Right by the vertibird you’ll find some power armor on the floor. There's also some sometimes on the roof of a nearby emergency building east of the Watoga Civic Center, in the Watoga Civic Center, on the roof of either the Watoga Emergency Services or Watoga High School, and in the Watoga Transit Hub behind a level 3 lock.
- Drop Site V9 - In the far, far south east you’ll find a place called Drop Site V9. There’s a power armor spawn in the concrete bunker building you can find, and in Survey Camp Alpha just to the west.
- Clarksburg - Near Wavy Willard’s Water Park, a little ways south of it, you’ll find Clarksburg. It’s a small town and full of angry robots, apparently the only survivors of a human/machine labour dispute. Look for a tall, reddy-orange building with a fire escape on the side that doesn’t reach the ground. Head behind it and you’ll find a barricade with small “Man Before Machine” sign on it and some stairs up. Follow that roof around to the right and you'll reach the fire escape. The power armor can appear on the next floor up.
- Belching Betty - You can potentially find some power armor near Bernie, around the shaft at Burning Mine on the Eastern side of Ash Heap.
- Arktos Pharma - When you reach the area look for the Arktos Pharma garage on the left hand side if you're facing the front of the building. Use the stairs and walkways over the buses to reach the hole in the ceiling and upper floors. The power armour can appear locked in a room behind a computer terminal with a hacking level of 0.
- Wade Airport x 2 - There are two power armor spawns at At Wade airport. The first is in the small aircraft hangar at the northern end of the runway by the flight tower. There's also a blue trailer at the southern end of the runway protected by mines which has some power armor inside. You’ll need a lockpick skill level 2 to open the door but other than that it’s yours for the taking.
- Black Bear Lodge - When you get to Black Bear Lodge you should see a small barn with a fallen tree on it to the west of the bigger building. The power armor can appear in there, just as you go in the door.
- Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06 - Look for the biggest building, with large blue pipes on the side and army vehicles outside. There's three sets of doors with a level 3 terminal to hack that opens them. If you can get in, go through and straight ahead until you see stairs going down. Follow the corridor around until you see a room with a workbench in and potentially some power armor at the back.
