Fallout 4 PS4 mods (and Skyrim mods) canceled and Bethesda's blaming Sony
After months of uncertainty and "evaluation," it's finally settled: Fallout 4 mods aren't coming to PS4, and they won't work for Skyrim Special Edition either. An update to Bethesda's site lays the blame for the dropped feature on Sony, saying the company would not "approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition".
It's a disappointing outcome, but at least we know where everything stands now. Fallout 4 mods first came to console via Xbox One back in May, and they were supposed to follow on PS4 in June. Bethesda cited some technical difficulties and delayed the PS4 update, and we had heard little more since then aside from occasional assurances from Bethesda that it was working with Sony to sort the problems out.
Bethesda came out of the gate with Fallout 4 mod support for Xbox One in mind, and said it would like to do the same on PS4 if possible - though it did start sounding a lot more like a sure thing later on. We've obviously only heard half of the story here, so I've asked Sony if it can add any context to Bethesda's claims. I'll update this story with any response.
