Exclusive: School Of Rock 2 - it's not happening
Richard Linklater dismisses rumour of Jack Black sequel
Don't believe everything you read online (unless you read it at totalfilm.com, obviously).
We've just been chatting with indie godfather Richard Linklater, the man behind Dazed And Confused, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and most recently Me And Orson Welles, about a the possibility of a sequel to his 2003 comedy School Of Rock and he told us, "I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. Never say never but currently, no. It never seemed to gel."
IMDB currently has School Of Rock 2: America Rocks slated for a 2011 release with Jack Black on board as Dewey Finn, the imposter teacher from the original.
This time, apparently, he "leads a group of summer school students on a cross-country field trip that delves into the history of rock 'n' roll and explores the roots of blues, rap, country and other genres." Only he doesn't.
"Every year I film a little more, he gets a little older. Last year he got acne and his voice dropped. My guy is going to have a beer for the first time this year.” Nostalgic and moving study of the loss of innocence? It's what Linklater does best...
