Exclusive images from our Kara Tointon photoshoot

The brand new issue of Total Film is out now, and inside you can check out our stunning Agenda Talent shoot with Kara Tointon.

But, if you fancy a sneak peek now, look no further, as we’ve got a couple of online exclusive snaps right here.

A veteran of British TV from an early age, Tointon had a recurring role on Teachers , before making a name for herself as Dawn in EastEnders . After winning series eight of Strictly Come Dancing , she earned rave reviews for her role in Pygmalion on stage in the West End.

This year she makes a step back towards the big screen in The Sweeney , Nick Love’s movie update of the ‘70s TV favourite (she previously had a blink-and-miss role in Love’s T he Football Factory ).

On her transition into movies, Toiton said, “It was always a dream in my mind but you never know how realistic that dream is.

“I think that when you become an actor, the two main things that you want to do are theatre and film, but I'd always just been sent for more TV work.”

When we asked about The Sweeney , she told us, “Everyone's heard of [ the original TV series ] and I had seen bits of it, but when I got the job I looked it up.

“This could be one of those breakthrough films. I think it could continue and become a franchise. I think they'll go for it [ in the US ].”

And it seems that her co-star, Ben Drew (AKA Plan B), helped her get to grips with the character: “Ben had written me this backstory, and asked me a lot of questions. Whether you're doing one scene or 70, that backstory makes things so much easier. I had a great time working with him.”
