EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer

Tired of endlessly waiting around for the World of Warcraft to get bigger? Massively multiplayer online gamers should take note that EverQuest II is planning an expansion that will make it larger than ever, with the Echoes of Faydwer add-on that will be available this November. Introducing a rarely-seen new race (the tiny, winged Fae), EQII is clearly attempting to pull the heartstrings of the ex-EQ (now Warcraft) faithful.

Throwing down the biggest add-on yet for the massively multiplayer EverQuest II, Sony Online plays the franchise's biggest trump card: a never-ending mountain of content. With seven years and change since the launch of the high-fantasy MMORPG EverQuest, the series has a seemingly limitless amount of back-story, and a world so enormous that players need only travel through it once. The Echoes expansion will fill in the mysterious details between the apocalyptic climax of the original EQ and the beginning of the EverQuest II story.

While the balance of content is geared toward challenging content for high-level characters, the lack of a level-cap increase points to an emphasis on new adventures for players of every level - including brand new players.

The once-destroyed city of Kelethin is the starting point for all players, and this ancient, ancestral home of the Wood Elves will likely be a hauntingly familiar place for old school EverQuest players.
