Evan Peters cast as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Bryan Singer has confirmed that a new character has been cast in X-Men: Days Of Future Past , an announcement that could be set to throw a spanner in the works for Joss Whedon's The Avengers 2 .

Singer took to Twitter to announce that Evan Peters has signed on to play Quicksilver in the new movie, a mutant with the ability to run at super-speed.

Here's how Singer unveiled the news…

Interestingly enough, that tweet replaced an earlier message that began: "Before he was an #Avenger , he was just a REALLY fast kid." Perhaps Singer became aware of the potential flames he was fanning...

The problem is that Whedon recently confirmed that Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch would be new additions to the team for The Avengers 2 , posing a headache in terms of continuity.

Disney and Fox don't share their Marvel properties, so it seems extremely unlikely that Peters will crop up in Whedon's film. However, re-casting the character for a film released just one year later is also not ideal…

One thing's for sure, though: Bryan Singer certainly isn't worried about overpopulating his cast! X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in the UK on 18 July 2014.
