Synopsis
A young man,
called Callister, comes into the
diner. Fargo spots him and tells
Stark. Turns out that he’s a
computer programmer who left
suddenly after he was accused of
torching Stark’s office. Hmm…
It looks as if this Callister boy
was responsible for the fire (or so
Jack thinks, and he is a
policeman) so he goes
investigating. He tracks Callister
down and finds him with Stark.
Turns out the boy is a robot (or
android, I can never remember
the difference) built by Stark.
Stark then pretended the kid was
his assistant. When Stark wanted
Callister to assimilate himself in
the real world, as part of his
project, he set fire to his own
office, to destroy all the research
– so no-one would know of the
reality of Callister’s identity.
Callister escapes, with Zoe, as
it turns out (we just don’t have
the space…), who’s just had an
argument with Jack, but they
don’t get far, and a
malfunctioning Callister “dies”…
Review
The pay-off when we
realise Callister is a robot isn’t as
dramatic as it should be because
of a dearth of good scenes
featuring him earlier in the
episode. And as regards Jack’s
female deputy having had a
relationship with him and never
having twigged, this technology
is far beyond most of what we’ve
seen in Eureka so far. There’s
suspension of disbelief and
there’s suspension of disbelief.
Dialogue
“Okay, this
isn’t going where I thought it was
going.” (On seeing robot Callister
for the first time.)
