Epic's mystery game revealed by VGA trailer; introducing Fortnite
First information sent out
UPDATE: Some details have finally come out about the game, and calling it Minecraft meets Tower Defense wasn't actually too far off. Reports are the game will be split into day and night, with the daytime gameplay involving cooperatively collecting resources and the night gameplay revolving around third-person shooting and building defenses.
It's still publisher-less, so that could all change if EA picks it up and asks them to add in new mechanics, but, as of now, that's what we're looking at.
Epic has been building up its new game for a few weeks now, promising a completely outside of the developer's typical wheelhouse. Now, we've seen the VGA trailer, and it doesn't look like they were exaggerating. It's called Fortnite, and we still have no idea what it is.
The trailer features stylized graphics that look more like what can be found in de Blob than Unreal Tournament, and it doesn't look like there's a lot of shooting. Instead, it reminds us of Tower Defense games and... Minecraft, to a point.
Blowing up stuff during the day, building forts during the night (get it? Fortnight?), and fighting off zombies? Sounds like fun. Hopefully Epic has more news soon, because we're definitely interested in finding out how the developer is planning on following up Gears of War 3.
