10 years after it was released, fans are calling this forgotten Marvel film one of the "greatest superhero movies" ever made

X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters 10 years ago today – and fans are showering the film with the love and praise it didn't receive back then.

The story, written by Jane Goldman, Simon Kinberg, and Matthew Vaughn, was inspired by the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline Days of Future Past and sees Logan (Hugh Jackman) aka Wolverine travel back in time to 1973 to prevent an event that will destroy both humans and mutants.

The absolutely star-studded cast starred James McAvoy as a young Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as a young Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Halle Berry as Storm, Peter Dinklage as Boliver Trask, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and Elliot Page as Kitty Pryde.

"Top 10 greatest superhero movie ever made," one fan wrote.

"This is the best X-Men movie and one of the greatest superhero movies ever made," wrote another.

"Best X-Men movie and it’s not close," someone said.

"Hasn’t been a better X-Men film since. Don’t trust Marvel at all to properly reboot this franchise," someone else commented.

"I told my friend that this movie alone clears the entirety of Phase 4 MCU and ill stand on that forever," another fan commented.

"Seeing everyone in the quotes FINALLY showing this love is great, I’ve said for years now that timeline being messed up aside, this is the greatest standalone X-Men film," said another.

The film did well at the global box office and received some critical acclaim, but ultimately remains one of the most underrated installments in Fox's pre-MCU X-Men franchise. Both X-Men '97 and Deadpool & Wolverine have ignited interest in the superhero group...but we're still waiting on X-Men's proper introduction into the MCU.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is streaming on Max. For more, check out our guide to all of the upcoming Marvel movies and shows you need to know about.
