The Penguin has finally kicked off with a dramatic opening episode taking us back to the dark criminal underground of Gotham City. First introduced in Matt Reeves' movie The Batman, the new show follows Colin Farrell's wannabe crime boss Oz Cobb as he tries to take advantage of the power vacuum in the city.
Set in the wake of the devastation wrought by the Riddler at the end of The Batman, it's all to play for in Gotham's underworld. He has some big competition though: in the form of Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), the daughter of late crime boss Carmine Falcone. Freshly released from Arkham where she was serving time for being the Hangman, she quickly proves that she's more than a match for the Penguin.

The Penguin release date: What time is episode 2 on HBO?
The Penguin episode 2 release date is September 29, 2024, at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific in the US and 2am BST on September 30 in the UK. If you don't fancy an especially late night across the pond, you can also catch the episode later that day at 9pm BST.
Although the season premiere aired on a Thursday, it's worth noting that the rest of the episodes will be released every Sunday (and, therefore, Monday across the pond) – but more on that below.
