The Scott Pilgrim director still plans to bring the diminutive Marvel hero to screen… one day. But there’s no sense of urgency, he says…
In an interview with the site he reveals that he’s just come from a dinner meeting with Marvel Films boss Kevin Feige, where the subject of the movie was discussed. Now that international promotion on Scott Pilgrim is out of the way he’s free to return to the project, which he’s now co-writing with Adventures of Tin Tin and Adam And Joe scripter Joe Cornish.
In the Marvel universe, Ant-Man is one of the many superhero identities of scientist Hank Pym, who’s had a colourful history in comics. A super-scientist, he’s also been Giant-Man, Yellowjacket, Goliath and The (male version of the) Wasp. He’s been an Avenger and a Defender. He’s been a supervillain and a wife batterer (he was married to the female Wasp). And he’s had serious mental health problems.
Wright still won’t say what the plot of the film will be, though he’s promising an offbeat approach. Previously he has said that the film won’t be a comedy but there will be a heavy dose of humour in it. He also tells 24 Frames that the film doesn’t need to be a blockbuster. “This one’s not about the urgency of summer tentpoles and things going into production without a script. It’s slightly different than that.”
