EA will release a FIFA 2014 World Cup game next year, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed during the company's second quarter earnings call last night.
The executive said (via Seeking Alpha): "In the last two weeks, you've seen several announcements about our product slate for the remainder of this year and into FY '15. We are refining our focus on our biggest brands and great new IP in development, including The Sims 4, EA Sports UFC, FIFA World Cup and Dragon Age: Inquisition."
EA has released tie-in games for every FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship since 1998’s FIFA Road to World Cup 98. The first seven titles released under the FIFA and UEFA licenses came in the form of standalone retail games, but the most recent, UEFA Euro 2012, launched as a £15.99 digital expansion for FIFA 12.
Earlier this week, EA Sports released a new FIFA 14 gameplay trailer showing off the Xbox One and PS4 versions of this year’s game in action ahead of their release next month.
