E3 MVG 2011 Selection: Tomb Raider interview

We all knew the next Tomb Raider would be different, but until I saw this reimagining for myself at the E3 show, I truly wasn%26rsquo;t prepared for just how different.

Crystal Dynamics hasn%26rsquo;t merely made Lara Croft younger, they%26rsquo;ve made her %26ndash; for the first time %26ndash; vulnerable. This is no self-assured, strong-willed superhero. This is no sexy British badass. This is a scared young girl who%26rsquo;s in way over her head, who must nervously talk herself through dangerous situations, who desperately seeks the help of other survivors and who won%26rsquo;t escape this adventure without bleeding, bruising and a lot of painfully broken bones. Does that make her weak? No, it makes her relatable, believable and extremely likable. It seems strange to say about a character who%26rsquo;s been around for 15 years, but Lara Croft might be the best %26ldquo;new%26rdquo; hero of 2012.

In the video above, I talk to Brian Horton %26ndash; Senior Art Director for Tomb Raider %26ndash; about how the reboot was conceived, and how he expects it to be received by loyal longtime fans.
