The Nintendo Conference, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, 9:00am PST, 7/11/07
The Nintendo E3 conference was an uncharacteristically sober affair and, with an emphasis on its mainstream titles, there wasn't a great deal to shout about. There were plenty of bar charts showing how its assault on non-gamers continues to be a success, backed up with reels and reels of self-congratulatory movie evidence. The new Zapper, Wheel and Balance Board peripherals weren't enough to rouse the subdued crowd and even the first look at Mario Kart Wii seemed a little lost amongst all the self-proclaimed life improving software. Predictably, the appearance of Miyamoto prompted the most raucous round of hand-clapping, but seeing Mr. Mario pimping an exercise workout made us cry inside just a little bit more.
