Dragon Quest X composer teases 2012 Wii release
Koichi Sugiyama puts Dragon Quest concert-goers on alert
The off-the-cuff announcement was made during a Dragon Quest concert last Friday in Fukoda, Japan, during which Sugiyama told the audience he was "currently making Dragon Quest X's music with the aim of next year." The quote was later verified by Japanese game site Game Jouhou (care of Sileconera), and backs up a similar comment from series creator Yuji Horii in March's Nintendo Power magazine, who stated, "All we can say is that development is going well and we're on the last parts of the game."
It's been over two years since Square Enix first dropped the news it'd be bringing the Dragon Quest series back to consoles for its tenth chapter, but very little info has followed since. If the studio is truly planning Dragon Quest X for a 2012 Wii release, there's a good possibility it will have to compete for attention against a brand new Wii system. Unless it is secretly planning the game as a launch title for a new Nintendo console, in which case we'd all do well to prepare for fangasm of Earth shattering proportions.
